Last week was a busy one out touring the electorate; on Monday I was joined by the Minister for Skills, John Barilaro in Mudgee to turn the first sod on the new multi-million dollar TAFE redevelopment site.
This site will become a leading training and education facility and will transform the vocational education and training landscape.
Local students and staff will be benefit from this redevelopment which will help to build the skilled workforce of the future.
While in Mudgee I dropped in for a tour of the airport, and I am pleased that the new airline is being utilised. I congratulate the Mid-Western Regional council on their efforts to secure the airline which will be an essential part of the local economy connecting Mudgee to our state capital and beyond.
Last Wednesday it was an honour on behalf of the NSW government to present Narromine general practitioner Dr Robert Kirkby with the 'Government of New South Wales' community service award.
Dr Kirkby has been recognised for his service to the community for over 45 years, not only in his capacity as the local doctor, but in different roles from cancer support groups and the local turf club.
Just a few weeks ago I made a speech in the Parliament congratulating Dr Kirkby on receiving this award.
In making the presentation I was joined by Narromine mayor Bill McAnally, Scott McLachlan from the Health District, the Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Health Sarah Mitchell and Dr Kirkby's loving wife Joy.
It's not every day you can hand over keys to a vehicle worth $465,000, but that's what I did last Friday. I visited the Delroy Fire Station in Dubbo to give them the keys to a new state-of-the-art firefighting tanker which has significantly boosted the ability of local firefighters to respond to emergencies.
This tanker is equipped with a compressed air foam system, a 3,200 litre water tank and breathing apparatus for each crew member.
The provision of this equipment means that local firefighters have the best available equipment to protect local people and property.
