Right up there with fun was an emphasis on raising awareness about the importance of safe and courteous behaviour while using the facility.
These were mostly commonsense things such as being sure to wear a helmet when riding a bike, and keeping dogs on leashes.
It certainly does not hurt to remind people of these, given the consequences of ignoring advice on both can be serious or even fatal.
To say the cycleway is one of Dubbo's best-kept secrets would not quite be correct, because most of the people we spoke to at Sunday morning's event used it several times a week and praised its beauty and safety.
It's often said that the best things in life are free. But it's also a strange aspect of human behaviour that we tend to not appreciate some things for that very reason.
When it comes to the Tracker Riley Cycleway, the price to use it (free) is most definitely right.
So next time you or your children complain about having nothing to do in Dubbo, remember there is a facility in your very own backyard that would be the envy of many in overcrowded and expensive Sydney, for instance.
Indeed, many Sydney residents, in between working to pay their crippling rents and mortgages, would relish an opportunity to escape the traffic and enjoy water views with their pets in a safe environment surrounded by nature that we have right here.
