Pasoon Jardan, from Berala, allegedly began threatening the victim at his Marrickville home on April 12, by entering his house with two other men, armed with a black flick knife, and demanding $850 cash.

Two days later, it's alleged the demands escalated significantly. Police documents tendered to the court allege Mr Jardan demanded $90,000 on April 14 when he allegedly threatened the victim at Lidcombe; allegedly insisting on the same amount of money again on May 2 when he entered the man's home in Marrickville.

It's alleged from April 21 to May 14, Mr Jardan demanded smaller amounts of cash totalling $6700.

Then, on May 17, it's alleged he went further. Police documents allege that Mr Jardan intimidated and menaced the victim with one accomplice. Later that day, it's alleged Mr Jardan, now accompanied with two men, kidnapped the victim and demanded a ransom of $75,000.

Seven days later, Mr Jardan is charged with going to the man's Marrickville home with an accomplice and demanding a payment of $589,000.

Two days after that, he allegedly demanded $20,000, and made continued threats of physical harm until June 3.

Mr Jardan's solicitor, Georgina Namat, said her client would be defending all allegations against him.

The court heard he was a 24-hour carer for his mother, who suffers a range of medical conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure and frequent seizures.

She said her client was willing to abide by strict conditions to get bail, including living under house arrest, and said his sister could deposit $15,000 to ensure he co-operated with the conditions.

However, bail was refused by magistrate George Zdenkowski, who cited the seriousness of the matter.

Mr Jardan faces 17 charges including stalking, intimidation, demanding property in company, take/detain person in company, and entering a dwelling with intent to steal.

He will appear at court in Burwood on June 10.
