Four of the club’s original members met for the monthly gathering on Wednesday, May 20 at Fortune Kitchen.
President, Darryl Lynch, said they had seen a remarkable change in not only computers but technology in general over the past 21 years.
“The internet has been the biggest change,” Mr Lynch said.
“But everything now seems to be smaller and more powerful.”
Mr Lynch said the changes made in technology had enabled people to have “access to more information at the swipe of a finger”.
Group member, Rae Fidock, said the development which had shocked her the most had been the overall price difference in computers in 1994, to what they are now.
“Nowadays, you can pay only a couple hundred dollars or so for one,” she said.
Mobile phones were another topic on the group’s agenda which, member Hugh Treloar said, still amazed him. While the changes have been extreme, member John Symonds said he didn’t think it was going to slow down any time soon.
“With the NBN roll out, there’s only a matter of time before something new comes out,” Mr Symonds said.
“Even the concept of our group changed over time.
“We used to be about assisting the community with their computers, but now everything is just so easy to work.”
