The Dubbo Meerkats competed in seven 70 minute games at the ninth annual Bathurst Stampede, coming away with a record eleventh place finish.
The two-day tournament saw almost 300 players, in 20 teams, converge on Bathurst, giving the state's regional teams a rare opportunity to compete against high-level players from across NSW.
Meerkats captain Jason Brouff commended the representative side on a strong and highly spirited weekend.
"The performance by the Meerkats across the two days was fantastic," Brouff said.
"The energy, commitment and good spirit of the team made the weekend a lot of fun and really rewarding."
"A zone defence, led by the girls in the team, was a highlight of our play which really worked well in putting pressure on our opposition and creating turnover of the disc."
Day one saw some excellent wins over the University of Sydney (SUUFA) and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), but the Meerkats couldn't get up over Canberra and the University of NSW (UNSW).
The second day playoff rounds saw wins against teams from UTS and a close loss to UNSW.
The weekend also marked a significant milestone for five Dubbo Meerkats, who made their tournament debut.
Ella Rathbone, Matilda Asser, Tiffany Boatman, Brad Rathbone and Chris Waghorn all compete weekly in the Dubbo Ultimate Frisbee Federation (DUFF) league, but had never played in a ultimate tournament.
Brouff said the five rookies did an amazing job making the leap from local league play to the physically challenging and tactical tournament-level Ultimate.
"It was great to see our new players to the tournament play so well and it reflects the strength in our local league," Brouff said.
The Meerkats will now set their sights on the state's next regional tournament, to be held in Wagga Wagga in August, before DUFF hosts its own tournament in November.
Ultimate is one of Dubbo's fastest growing sports, with seven-on-seven social matches held through winter at 6pm Monday nights at the South Dubbo Oval. All are welcome, especially new players who want to give it a try.
