Dr Jarrod Rawson was the first of six contestants to sit in the Hot Seat on the episode that screened on Wednesday night.
Dr Rawson grew up in the Dubbo areas, where parents Kathy and Russell lived for 28 years before moving to Newcastle.
Kathy was in the audience to cheer her son on, and during a chat with host Eddie McGuire Dr Rawson mentioned his parents were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary that week.
Now an intern doctor, 25-year-old Dr Rawson discussed with host Eddie McGuire how his family had experienced "shocking droughts in Dubbo" and how he would love to do something nice for them.
"If I win any money tonight, I'd love to send them overseas - all their money from the last decade has gone towards helping with the farm," he said, at that stage obviously unaware what he had hoped for would come to delightful fruition later in the program.
Dr Rawson correctly answered the first question by knowing part of a bridal gown was a "train" before taking a strategic pass on the second question.
Fellow contestants came and went before Dr Rawson returned to the Hot Seat for the $50,000 question, where he and the host again chatted about how the Rawson family lived in Rawsonville Road and how the family would love to holiday in Europe.
When asked what type of question he hoped for or feared, Dr Rawson told the host he would not mind getting a question about the human body or anatomy and hoped he did not get one about movies or sport.
But get a film question he did when, with $50,000 at stake, he was asked:
"In which Disney film do the central characters live inside a computer game?".
Dr Rawson correctly answered Wreck-It Ralph to pick up the prize as a proud and tearful Kathy Rawson trotted down the stairs to give her son a congratulatory hug and kiss.
Mrs Rawson told the Daily Liberal she could not have been more proud of her son.
"Obviously it was all filmed earlier this year and we wanted so much to tell people what had happened but we weren't allowed to until it screened, it's just incredible," she said.
"A group of Jarrod's doctor friends came around to watch it and cracked open the Moet.
"Since it was on TV the phone has not stopped - Facebook's gone crazy with messages."
Mrs Rawson said her son had applied to go on the show years ago but had been so busy with university study and exams he was not able to do so until this year.
"It was a wonderful experience and Eddie McGuire was just so lovely, he was really genuine and cared about our lives," she said.
As for the European holiday, Mrs Rawson said her son would indeed make good on his promise to take the family to Europe on a trip that was set to take place in the middle of next year.
