The problem continues to be widespread across the region, with more and more stories coming out from residents about the effects drugs and alcohol abuse have on the community.
On Tuesday members of the community spoke out at the Dubbo Neighbourhood Centre about their battle with drug and alcohol addiction, again highlighting the need for a rehab centre to be built in the city.
Without close access to a facility, in an area it is desperately needed, country residents are once again left out compared to our city counterparts.
It has been nationally recognised that drugs and alcohol are an issue and a growing problem in western communities.
Statistics show 80 per cent of crimes before the court in Dubbo are related to drug and alcohol offences.
With statistics like these, the need for such a facility is a must for the community.
It is a need, not a want, and a need that should have been recognised by both federal and state governments long before now.
Rehabilitation centre workers have said in the past that it is hard for people to live in the centre, then go home and not relapse if they are again surrounded by the problem.
A centre in Dubbo would mean so much more support for residents in both Dubbo and the wider area. No longer would travelling and the costs associated be an issue.
With a centre here in Dubbo more people could get the help that they need.
