RAWSON Homes Premiership heavyweights Saint Collegians and Fusions Blue both continued their strong start to the season on Saturday.

The two sides kept their respective undefeated starts to 2015 intact with victories setting up a stellar clash between the two teams next weekend.

Fusions Blue remain on top of the ladder on percentages but defending premiers Saints were impressive on Saturday as they cruised past Apollo Mixtures 54-33.

Once again, Saints were the highest scoring team of the round, continuing their run of consistent and impressive shooting.

Fusions Blue had to work much harder for their win but they proved too strong for clubmates Apollo Pink, winning 38-32.

Fusions Pink cling on to third sport despite the loss, proving they are still in the race and not a team to be taken lightly.

In the round’s other A grade matches, Fusions Black were big winners as they defeated St Comebacks 53-35 while St Hornets are still without a win after they went down to St Devils, 48-26.

Hornets remain rooted to the bottom of the ladder but Michelle Williams, who left her role as captain of St Collegians to mentor the younger St Hornets side, is delighted by the fact more teams are competing in A grade this season.

St Hornets are one of a number of new sides this season with the competition expanding from five teams to eight.

“It’s been fantastic and it’s great to have some more variety and having younger girls up playing A grade and not playing the same people,” she said.

“You go out now not knowing what’s going to happen because there’s so many good sides.”

Hornets are on three points while St Devils, Fusions Black, St Comebacks and Apollo Mixtures are all locked together on five points, two behind Apollo Pink and four behind the top two.

In B grade, Deadly Dragonflies defeated Apollo Cruizers in the top of the table clash.

Both sides went into the game undefeated but it was the Dragonflies who came out on top, winning 41-27 to confirm themselves as competition front runners.

Narromine Bombers ended Goodstart Fury’s run of victories in C Grade with both sides unable to be separated in a 26-all draw while winners in that grade on Saturday included the Narromine Stingers and St Touch.
