The young trainer has only had a licence for less than two seasons but has been associated with good horses such as Are You Sure and Socks The Fox in his time working with fellow Mudgee trainer Cameron Crockett.
Saturday's win was just his third after previously having success with Dragon's Reign in November 2013 and again in June of last year.
Saturday Supreme had only raced four times prior to Saturday, with her best effort being a second placing at a Warren non-TAB meeting.
But in all three other starts she had been supported, suggesting she had shown some ability at home.
Despite failing to break through in her earlier races, Smith persevered with the Any Given Saturday (USA) x Lady Supreme filly and she justified that belief when she ploughed through the wet conditions to score a dominant win on Saturday.
With Mick Travers replacing fellow Cowra hoop Mathew Cahill, Saturday Supreme ($8.00) was sent forward from the start and found a spot outside the early leader Spinifex Gypsy ($6.00, Richard Bensley).
Rounding the home turn Travers let the filly shift towards the middle of the track in search of better ground and she quickly found the front.
Meanwhile A Bonnie Glow ($8.00, Leanny Henry), which had trailed Saturday Supreme throughout the race, presented and threatened to provide a challenge but Smith's filly proved too strong as she went on to win by one-and-three-quarter lengths.
A Bonnie Glow held second, one-and-a-quarter lengths ahead of Life Of Pi ($6.50, Jeff Kehoe), which rattled home late at her first start for Wellington trainer Garry McCarney.
"I've only got six horses in my stable so to get another winner is a big thrill," Smith said after the race.
"She's a nice filly but she's had no luck so far. She probably should have won that race at Warren a couple of runs back but she made up for it today.
"Like most of the breed she will only get better as she gets older and I'd like to think she will really be suited when I can get her out to 1600m.
"Mick (Travers) rode her a treat today and put her into the race. He wasn't afraid to get moving on her early as well and she really toughed it out well."
Later in the program Dubbo trainer Brian Young was also rewarded for his patience when his consistent mare Laugharne ($6.00, Joe Saiki) saluted in the Mitavite Mile Reminder Class 3 Handicap (1600m).
The four-year-old daughter of former European champion Dylan Thomas (IRE) hadn't finished second in three of her previous five starts but finally broke back into the winner's circle with a tough win, beating Over In Killarney ($5.50, James Innes Jr) and Blood Red Moon ($3.20 fav, Allan Chau).
