The Raiders have slumped to four consecutive losses and the task doesn't get any easier against a Rabbitohs side still smarting from last weekend's disappointing draw with Narromine.
The fact a number of Rabbitohs are former Macquarie players means there will be a bit of extra feeling in the clash at Caltex Park.
"It should be one of the toughest matches of the season, both times we played them last season the games were absolute rippers," Egan said.
"I've played with most of them before so we know what to expect."
Taking some gloss out of the match is the fact both sides are missing a stack of players through injury and suspension.
Claude Gordon is still suspended while during the week James McKinnon failed to attend the judiciary, meaning he is out until he fronts a hearing.
On top of that, Jeremy Smith is out for the foreseeable future while Mason Williams is also set for a long stint on the sidelines.
A head injury suffered at work is threatening to keep Williams, who Egan described as a standout for the Raiders this season, out for up to eight weeks.
Westside will be without influential five-eighth Josh Merritt after he was suspended for two matches at the judiciary during the week.
Merritt was cited by the management committee despite not being placed on report for an alleged swinging arm in the match against Narromine last weekend.
The Group 11 management committee requested video footage of the incident and found Merritt guilty.
The Rabbitohs will also be sweating on the fitness of Swade Dunn after the halfback limped off inside the first 10 minutes last weekend but a decision is not expected to be made until later today.
With a number of new faces already in the side this season, Westside coach Robbie Dunn admitted the injuries and suspensions made it difficult to build continuity in the team.
"We've got a new side so it's about getting those combinations going but we're getting there," he said.
"We'll just take it as it comes, it (a win) would be a bonus but common sense tells you premierships are won at the end of the season."
Despite their run of losses, Macquarie's Egan felt his side was improving and said the second half against Nyngan last week was their best 40 minutes of the season.
"But in saying that, we need a win," he said.
"We're building towards it and it's been great to have old heads like Matty Lane there for a bit of experience because we are a young side."
Kick off is at 2.30pm.
