While the Demons slumped to another loss, keeping them at the foot of the table, Rothnie celebrated the birth of his first child and then a hugely dominant Orange win.
The Demons remain winless in 2015 after their trip to Orange where they were handed another heavy loss, this time going down 30.20 (200) to 3.5 (32).
On Saturday morning Orange's Rothnie was going to pull out of the game as his child was on its way.
However, his son arrived safely and Rothnie was encouraged to pull on his footy boots.
It proved a great decision as the new father kicked nine goals in the Tigers' massive 168-point win.
Rothnie was one of the players who stepped up when captain Tim Barry was sidelined early in the second quarter with a groin strain.
"We moved a couple of players around and Michael Rothnie was one of those who really stood up," Tigers coach Nathan Pearce said.
Pearce explained by half-time, the Tigers were well and truly in control.
"Our midfield in the first half really set the game up for us," he said.
"Guys like Leigh Turner, Daniel Bruce, Simon Ewin and Zac Forostenko, their work really set us up."
The Tigers booted eight goals in the opening quarter to lead by 47 points at the first break.
A further 10 goals in the second period had the Tigers up 18.10 (118) to 2.2 (14) at half-time.
"Dubbo were able to slow us up in the second half a little," Pearce said.
The coach was spot on with Orange restricted to five goals in the third quarter and seven in the fourth.
However, the Tigers still managed a massive 168-point victory at Country Club Oval.
Ben Madigan kicked two majors for Dubbo and Ryan Woolfe kick his side's only other six-pointer.
While it may be hard for the Demons to find any positives, it was an improvement on their round one loss.
That day the Dubbo side was handed a 228-point shellacking.
Dale Hunter kicked five goals for the home side, while Andrew Nelson, Ben Monaghan, Luke Thorley, Barry and Harry Carnie all bagged a double each.
The Demons return home this weekend with a match against the Bathurst Bushrangers at South Dubbo Oval on Sunday.
