From Monday it intends to install a new version.
The council is spending $50,000 on the new playground, money it had previously intended to transfer to nearby Elizabeth Park.
Advice from the community put a halt to the council plan.
Council's manager horticultural services, Ian McAlister said the renewal of the playground was the result of community consultation in January and February, involving letter drops to households and face-to-face information sessions.
"Consideration was given to a proposal to transfer funds allocated to the Buckingham Drive playground replacement to nearby Elizabeth Park within the Dubbo Regional Botanic Gardens to assist in the funding of a regional playground," he said.
"However, after consideration of the proposal and the community feedback received, council resolved at the ordinary meeting of council in March to retain Buckingham Drive as a neighbourhood park and fund the renewal of the equipment.
"Council would like to thank the members of the community that provided feedback on the continued need for the playground."
Mr McAlister said removal of the old equipment and the installation of the new playground would take place during May.
"The new playground is scheduled to be installed from May 11, and work is expected to be complete and the grounds open to the public about two weeks after that," he said.
