Dubbo College PE teacher and father of two Andrew Livingston was diagnosed with brain cancer last year, and family friend Michelle O'Callaghan is organising a fund-raiser on Saturday, May 23.
"I just wanted to ease the financial burden on them," Mrs O'Callaghan said.
"They don't need to be stressing about how to pay the next electricity bill."
The devastating news came while Andrew was in Canada, with wife Barb and their two daughters, Hazel, 8, and Bridget, 6. He underwent surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, and the family returned to Dubbo in January.
The treatment, and the position of the tumour on his brain, has left Mr Livingston with some physical limitations. He was confined to a wheelchair earlier in the year, and now relies on a walking stick to get around.
The fundraiser will be held at the Western Plains Cultural Centre Outreach Cafe, and will include live music and a charity auction.
Items up for auction include:
- Original artworks by Vicki Aland, Jacinta Haycock, Kyah Wilson, Holly Eva and Barb Livingston
- VIP tickets to an NRL game of your choice, including a tour of the outside broadcast, as well as meeting some Fox Sports talent and players
- Signed sporting memorabilia, including rugby shirts, Team Vodafone shirt (signed by Craig Lowndes and Jamie Wincup), and signed balls and caps
- 2 tickets to ACDC
- Anytime fitness Gym membership
- Bed and breakfast packages including one at Dubbo's prestigious 'Pericoe Retreat'
- Plus jewelry, hampers and much more!
Mrs O'Callaghan is calling on local residents to get behind the cause.
"They are a beautifully positive couple," Mrs Callaghan said of Andrew and his wife, fellow school teacher Barb Livingston.
"They would still do anything for anyone, even though they are struggling with this."
