Meeting six out of the seven guidelines that puts them Fit for the Future, Dubbo council have maintained their stance that they will not support an amalgamation with Narromine or Wellington councils.
It’s not just one sided.
Both Narromine and Wellington have also stated at various stages they don’t want amalgamation to occur either.
It would mean a wider area to cover with essential services, such as roads, bridges, bin collections and other services and it just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
Amalgamating with the other two council areas would mean the money would be spread more widely and Dubbo would lose out because sacrifices would have to be made in other services that council provides for our residents.
We have so many services in Dubbo that would lose out if there was a larger strain on the budget.
It’s great to see that Dubbo City Council will meet six of the seven key performance indicators.
The exception being the building and infrastructure renewals ratio.
When it comes to amalgamation it is a little different when talking about country areas and city areas.
It was mentioned that some city areas wont meet the benchmarks set, but when you compare distance and services it would be a lot easier for city areas to merge together than us in the country.
It will be interesting to see what happens when decisions are made.
