This is a necessary part of the process for council to continue to operate from July 1 this year but I see it as a great opportunity to involve the community in the operations of council.
Council is a big business. Our community owns $1.138 billion in assets, our budget for the upcoming year is $160 million and we employ 314 staff.
When we are putting together a budget for the upcoming year, we make decisions based on what we will feel will be the best outcome for the majority of Dubbo.
Having said that, I strongly encourage our residents to obtain a copy of the plan for next year (from the website or a physical copy from Dubbo City Council, Macquarie Regional Library Dubbo Branch, Ballimore Inn, Eumungerie and Wongarbon Post Office) and have a look through it.
Our submissions are open until Friday, June 5.
Tell us your thoughts.
Could we reduce our services somewhere? Should we change our priorities? Should we be putting up rates to a higher level?
When council formally resolves our budget, I can’t guarantee you will receive everything you ask for but I can guarantee that all ideas will be considered and I have seen many plans changed as a result of community feedback.

Every six months we formally welcome new residents to our city.
Tomorrow night (Thursday) we have our next New Residents’ Night.
This is being held at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre.
If you have moved to Dubbo over the last six months, please come along and be properly welcomed to Dubbo.
It is a chance for you to meet other people new to Dubbo, as well as speak to some of the organisations and service clubs that you can become involved with in Dubbo.
I particularly enjoy chatting to some of our newest Dubbonians to find out about the journey that led them to Dubbo.
There are always some fascinating stories.

We have had a couple of significant birthdays over the last few weeks.
Dubbo City Regional Airport turned 80 and this Saturday Snare’s Newsagency is celebrating 60 years of operation.
