The game started competitively with the younger Harlequin team taking it to the Metroll Blues.
This was the indicator the Metroll Blues would need to be on their game and play good structured rugby.
With their large mobile pack they were making inroads into the Harlequins defensive line which quickly paid dividends with the elusive Jack Brown crossing the try line. But in the windy conditions the conversion was waived away.
Next to score after more sustained pressure was Dan Duffy, with the five-pointer turning out to be his first of his three tries for the day.
The Harlequins had the Metroll Blues team under pressure at times, particularly at the breakdown where they turned the ball over cheaply, something which would have pleased their coach Dave Parish.
The commitment of the Harlequins was also impressive but the size and speed of the Metroll Blues outfit was always going to be a difficult for the Harlequins to handle and the Metroll Blues ran out 56-0 winners.
Callum Hoskings and Charlie Spora both bagged two tries, with Harry O’Leary kicking five goals under trying conditions. Will Stellmacher made good metres, as did the prop forward Mark Coleman.
The Harlequins had a number of players who stood up all day and never stopped trying with Charlie Kempston leading from the front, well supported by Sam Knaggs, Charlie Coddington and Harry Connell.
The score was no way indicative of how big an effort the Harlequins side put in and how well they played against a side which contains a number of quality players.
Both coaching staff were pleased with their players’ efforts and the spirit of rugby was alive and well with both teams singing the victory song together, which was pleasing to see for the crowd of supporters on hand.
