Two-time defending A-grade premiers St Collegians picked up where they left off at the end of last season, beating Fusion Black 48-24 in a comprehensive display.
In stark contrast to last season when there were limited team numbers in A-grade, this year sees eight teams lining up in the top division and judging by results in the other matches, it is going to be a top competition.
Fusion Blue and Fusion Pink fared much better than their counterparts, with both sides recording victories.
Blue in particular were very impressive as they piled on the goals in a 62-27 win over St Comebacks, while Pink scored a 47-28 victory over St Hornets.
The final A-grade match of the round was a thriller, as Apollo Mixtures scored a nail-biting 26-24 win over St Devils.
In B-grade new club WMPD Tac Tidda’s enjoyed a winning start when they beat Narromine 36-33 in their debut match in the competition.
Sponsored by Wayne Mallison Painting and Decorating, the club has three teams competing in this year’s competition.
Their Division 3 side also enjoyed the perfect start to the season, beating St Shots 37-12, however in D-grade St Vino’s got the better of them, winning 38-10.
In Saturday’s other B-grade matches, Narromine Hawks beat St Troopers 40-20, Apollo Cruizers had a 49-15 win over Fusions Ember and Deadly Dragonflies beat St Groovers 42-16.
