Co-ordinator Peter Barkley said there was a steady crowd of people who came to St Brigid's Church Hall to see what was on offer.
"The fiction books are very popular, but virtually everything is going out the door. They don't buy just one thing they get a big bag full," he said.
It was the sixth time the event had been held and Mr Bartley said the crowds were on par with previous years.
"There were about 50 people outside waiting to come in when the doors opened. The first thing we were asked was where are the cowboy and western books and the second thing was 'do you have Fifty Shades of Grey?'," he said.
The money raised from the event is going to a good cause.
"We split the money with the Royal Flying Doctors Service here in Dubbo and the Cancer Research Centre," Mr Bartley said.
"We'd like to get about $4000 this year so we can give each of the charities $2,000." As well as the funds from purchasing the books, there was also a gold coin entry and Mr Bartley said there had been some donations, such as the $150 from the staff at Community and Family Services.
Mr Bartley said all of these books were donated from people around Dubbo.
"There were 400 books that came from a couple in Nyngan," he said.
"We got one lady who donated her lifetime collection of cookbooks, there was cooking for diabetes, cooking for GI, all were in pristine condition.
"People really do not want to throw away books. The good thing with us is we can give them another life.
Dubbo Macquarie Rotary Club organised the event and Lorraine Croft said they were very grateful to the community for donating the books.
"A lot of people donated books and then came back and bought more," Ms Croft said.
