Forbes-based jockey Catherine Newcombe had just guided the Barry Molloy-trained Royal Society to victory when the horse stumbled and fell.
As you can see from Simon Thompson's dramatic photograph the fall wasn't particularly pretty but thankfully, after stints at Nyngan and Dubbo hospitals, Newcombe has been given the all clear.
She suffered a concussion and some general soreness and posted on Facebook on Saturday night "Had a fall today didn't even know it happened, doing okay feeling pretty sore nothing broken. Thanks for all the nice messages."
Central west deputy chief steward Sam Fitzgerald, who officiated at the meeting, said Royal Society's front legs appeared to strike each other shortly after the winning post.
"The front right leg has contacted the front left leg and from there the horse has become unbalance, knuckled and then fallen," Fitzgerald said.
"Thankfully the horse appeared to go over the top of Catherine and she was far enough in front of the other runners and wide enough as well that the jockeys on those horses were able to avoid her.
"There's no such thing as a good fall in racing, and this happened right in front of the crowd and there were some distressed and upset people on course, but thankfully the outcome is good for both Catherine and the horse."
