PAUL and Pamela Braddon’s trusty ute has proved the perfect training partner for Overflo Magic - and it may help the in-form greyhound claim this year’s Cosmic Rumble Gold Cup (516m) at Dubbo.

The sprinter, who ran a terrific 29.81 over the 516m at Dubbo recently and has enjoyed a super 2015, jumps from box one in the fourth of Tuesday’s five heats of the $25,000-to-the-winner series.
Overflo Magic always had ability but was driving the Cowra couple to their wits’ end with his “impatient” nature and bad box manners.
After a tip from mates, they tried a new training technique with Overflo Magic - and it has worked spectacularly.
“When Paul gets halfway up our training track in the ute, I let Overflow Magic go,” Pamela Braddon said. “He loves chasing the ute.
“You should see him motor - he always catches it.
“There were times when I said, ‘I don’t know what to do with him’. He was so hard to handle.
“I’m certainly glad this seems to have worked.”
Overflo Magic is a son of city-class greyhound Over Flo, who won 15 races, and grandson of legendary greyhound Brett Lee.
He has nine wins and 11 minor placings from 28 races so far, including six wins and three minor placings in his 10 starts so far in 2015.
Overflo Magic has only had one previous start from box one in his career and looks well drawn here to secure a place in Saturday’s final.
“He wants the inside - he just hasn’t been getting it,” Pamela Braddon said.
“He has been coming out good enough to cross them.
“Now he’s on the inside, I’m quietly confident he can win.”
Five high-quality heats have been assembled for the series, which headlines this week’s Dubbo carnival.
Suzi Cargo (box one) looks a strong chance in the first heat, with Adam Handler looking a good chance from box two in the second.
Heat three looks the most competitive heat, with Chasing The Line perhaps having the edge over Zipping Carter from box four.
Winsome Mission (box two) has been in contention for big races and looks strong in heat five.
The Braddons have enjoyed some notable triumphs over the years, including taking out the 2012 Bathurst Soldiers Saddle with Willow Blaze.
“I just like going to the races,” Pamela Braddon said. “For me, it’s not about winning - it’s about racing.
“Paul gets disappointed but it doesn’t worry me as long as our greyhounds have tried.
“Just making a final is a great achievement when you beat good dogs to get there.
“The pleasure of seeing the dogs doing their best - that’s what it’s about.”
