When the Kindle, the Kobo and other e-readers burst onto the scene six years ago it was predicted to kill off the reading of hard copy books but this hasn't happened, Dubbo's book fair co-ordinator Peter Bartley says.

He pointed to statistics for e-reader sales as he expressed doubt that printed books would be dumped anytime soon.
Mr Bartley spoke ahead of the sixth annual Rotary Club of Dubbo Macquarie Michael Egan Memorial Book Fair planned for May 2.
"Whilst the e-reader is part of the industry's future , it has now stabilised its share of the reading market at 20 per cent," Mr Bartley said .
"In Australia the number of print books being sold is actually on the rise.
"Australians bought 55.4 million print books last year , up 2.2 per cent on the previous year - the first year of positive growth since 2009."
Britain's biggest book chain Waterstones has said that the Kindle "has disappeared to all intents and purposes" and a Sydney book shop has reported that sales for the Kobo at the shop were stagnant .
The Australian Booksellers Association have said that the overly dramatic predictions of death - whether for books or e-readers - were unhelpful and that the industry had to live with both.
"Just as movies were going to be the death of live theatre and just as television was going to be the death of movies , these things will happen and adjustments in the market have to be made," Mr Bartley said .
"E-books will continue to be around but they're not the death of books and the annual book fair which now services the Orana region will go from strength to strength."
Mr Bartley said that he had not noticed any drop off in the quantity of donated books each year that came from Narromine and Wellington as well Dubbo itself.
"Many books are either as new or extremely well looked after indicating that book owners really care for and about their reading practices," Mr Bartley said .
The Rotary Club of Dubbo Macquarie Michael Egan Memorial Book Fair will be held from 8am to 4pm on Saturday May 2 at St Brigid's Church Hall in Brisbane Street, Dubbo .
