Corey Verning, 18, twice reached speeds of more than 20km/h higher than the speed limit during a chase that began in Thompson Street and continued for about three kilometres.
Abandoning the vehicle, he was eventually brought into custody with the help of the dog squad and charged with a string of offences.
He will learn his sentence next month after entering pleas of guilty to all charges.
About 11.30pm on March 4, highway patrol officers observed a Holden Colorado turn wide into Thompson Street, swerve within its lane and have difficulty maintaining speed, court documents show.
Police activated warning lights but the vehicle continued and then increased speed and a pursuit began.
The vehicle continued along at a speed of up to 87km/h in Thompson Street - signposted at 50km/h - and then on to the Mitchell Highway.
The pursuit went from the Bourke Hill Reserve to Jannali Road and back on to the highway.
At one stage the vehicle was heading straight at police, only turning right at the last minute and narrowly missing a collision, the documents show.
It crossed on to the wrong side of the highway at one point and reached 86km/h in the 60km/h zone.
Police observed the accused running from the vehicle and gave chase on foot.
The dog squad pulled up alongside the accused, causing him to climb over a nine-foot high fence and fall heavily, at which point he was arrested.
While in custody the accused made admissions to police about driving straight at the fully-marked highway patrol vehicle, the documents show.
"The accused said 'if they didn't get out of the way I was going to hit them and try to get away'," the documents show.
Verning was charged with taking and driving a vehicle without consent, police pursuit - not stop, never licensed person driving, two counts of exceeding the speed limit by more than 20km/h, not keeping left of a dividing line and driving a defective motor vehicle.
He will be sentenced on May 27.
