The Dubbo ladies started out flat against Ex-Services, and despite fighting back to level from 3-1 down, couldn't maintain their intensity.
"We gave them real good serve at half-time but then we dropped off - we've got to keep pushing," Blue Jays coach Craig Johnston said of last week's loss.
"It was just our intensity. We just tend to drift in and out of the game, whereas you need to be switched on all game."
The girls are heading down to Bathurst for yet another away game, and are trying a new tactic this week.
"We're going to try and get there earlier so we've got a bit more time to shake the cobwebs out before we take to the field," Johnston.
"I'm even going on the bus to try and get a bit of stuff going while we're going down there."
"It's just our mental attitude towards the game that we're really trying to work on."
The girls are in desperate need of some wins to keep them in touch with the competition's top four.
They'll be rounding out the season proper with six-straight home games later in the year, but there are a whole lot of road trips on the horizon.
"The whole of May is really booked up for the girls - we go away to Orange, we go away to Lithgow, we go away to Parkes," Johnston said.
"This one and the next one in Orange are crucial for us to consolidate our position before we get that home run."
But they'll get a short break before they return to Orange, with a general bye scheduled over the Anzac Day weekend.
"There's a general bye next week, then we're back to Orange," the coach said.
"We'll be looking forward to a break and if we can get some points here this weekend then it keeps us in the top four.
"It's not all doom and gloom but we really need to come away with a result. We've just got to keep ourselves in touch with the top four. It's crucial just to set us up for the semis."
The Blue Jays will have an almost full strength line-up, with the Bloinke Hollier sisters the only missing faces.
Phoebe will be out for a second straight week at the under-15s Women's Australian Championship at the Gold Coast, while sister Bree will also be out as she heads up north to cheer Phoebe on.
Otherwise Johnston has only made a single change to the Blue Jay's line-up, moving Alex Waters, who impressed last week with some individual brilliance in front of goal, into the halves.
"We're just looking for a bit more injection," Johnston said.
"Our halves have been good. They've been solid but we really need the halves to be injecting themselves into the forward line a bit more."
But he doesn't want to make too many changes, with the girls lacking nothing in terms of ability.
"We just need that extra bit of oomph," Johnston said.
"We're not at panic station. We're tight there, we just need to get that extra 1 per cent right and it will click."
The girls face Bathurst Souths in Bathurst at 3.20pm today.
