The sixth annual book fair is organised by the Dubbo Macquarie Rotary Club, and will take place at St Brigid's Church Hall on Saturday, May 2.

Co-ordinator Peter Bartley said the fair is all about promoting reading in the community.

"Part of the enterprise is to promote reading," Mr Bartley said.

"We've got a very good selection of children's book and we've decided that children's book will be two for $1."

"We're keen to get books into children hands."

The organisers have already received a great number of donations, and are asking people to continue to donate, or even recycle their books.

"We often find that people buy them one year and return them the next, which we love," Mr Bartley said.

"The public has been very generous, we've got a very good selection."

That selection includes everything from children's books to car manuals.

"We're finding that the military type books are very popular at the moment with the Gallipoli centenary and the Anzac story," Mr Bartley said.

All proceeds from this year's book fair will go to the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Dubbo, and the Bill Walsh Cancer Research Centre at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney.

"Usually we raise about $3000 to $4000 per year and we split that equally between the two nominated charities," Mr Bartley said.

And despite cutting the book fair from a two-day affair down to one, he hopes it can be even more profitable than previous years.

"We're hopeful that we can raise a bit more this year. We're hoping that the better quality of the books can boost the takings for the day."

The book fair is on Saturday, May 2, from 8am until 4pm and entry is by gold coin donation.

All books remaining will be discounted for the last hour.

"If you really want a particular category of book then you need to get there early, but if you want to take a punt, come in the last hour and get a bargain," Mr Bartley said.
