As of Monday afternoon the Western region had remained fatality-free, despite several road deaths in NSW and a three-car crash at Parkes that left a woman and a highway patrol officer in hospital.
NSW Police Western region traffic boss Inspector Jeff Boon said police had conducted 21,714 random breath tests in the western region, issuing 565 speeding tickets, 67 tickets for seatbelt offences and 548 infringements for other matters, including mobile phone offences.
In the Orana region there had been 1919 random breath tests conducted and 66 speeding tickets were issued. There were nine infringements for seatbelt offences and 54 infringements for other matters.
There were other examples of bad behaviour on the roads across the long weekend, Inspector Boon said.
About 7.15pm Sunday a 23-year-old Trangie woman was detected driving without a licence in Trangie.
In the early hours of Monday morning, Orana Highway Patrol stopped a 21-year-old Dubbo man at a mobile random breath test. The driver, a green P2 driver, registered a blood alcohol reading of 0.092.
Inspector Boon said long weekend traffic through the region was the busiest he could remember.
"People are obviously taking advantage of all the attractions the western region has to offer, and considering the high volume of traffic, our figures are not too bad," he said.
