Stephen Stuart Walker, 60, recorded making a stop at Orange rather than the actual place he rested.
He pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to making a false or misleading entry in a work record.
The offence carries a maximum penalty of $10,000.
Magistrate Andrew Eckhold convicted Walker and imposed a $300 fine.
He said it was "an incredibly important job" Walker did and that was why there was a system to address fatigue in place.
The defence had submitted Walker drove between 200,000km and 300,000km a year for his work and that he had no record of similar offences.
"That's despite him filling out a log book every day for as long as log books have existed," the solicitor said.
The court heard that Walker had pulled over at a rest area between Orange and Bathurst with no name and slept there for 10 hours.
He recorded it as Orange, but made no excuse that he should not have made the mistake, the defence said.
The solicitor said Walker had fixed up his practices and instructed that it would not happen again.
