THE Dubbo Division 1 side failed to stop powerhouse Orange in the GrainCorp West/Central West State League decider on Sunday but there was still plenty to cheer about on grand final day.
For the second consecutive year Dubbo met Orange in the Division 1 final at Orange PCYC but the home side prevailed 66-29 in a dominant display.
Remarkably, the win sealed Orange's 20th straight State League crown, marking two decades as the region's standout netball centre.
"It wasn't the fairytale ending Dubbo had hoped for but we are already planning for 2016 and we will be back," co-coach Karen Weekes said after the match.
While the Dubbo Division 1 team, which had trained since September in order to take down Orange, missed out, the Division 2 side capped off their unbeaten season with grand final glory.
The decision to play Dubbo's 17s side in Division 2 proved a masterstroke as the rising stars defeated Bathurst 47-43 in a tense finale.
