They've both at times been captain of Newtown, they're both leading all-rounders in the competition and they're both named Skinner.
Mat and Steve for years have been the heart and soul of Newtown and after seasons of dedication to the club this weekend they're out to record a drought-breaking Whitney Cup triumph.
The Tigers haven't won a first grade premiership since back-to-back triumphs in 2001/02 and 2002/03 and current captain Mat Skinner, who had not even played a Whitney semi-final before last week, said his team have enjoyed the build up.
"It feels awesome, I haven't played in a final for about ten years and that was when I captained the Kelly Cup team and we won," he said.
"I always wanted to play in a Whitney Cup semi-final and we won that last week and now we've got the chance to win a grand final."
For elder brother Steve, who has been a part numerous McDonald's Megahit, Kelly Cup, Clegg Shield and Brewery Shield premiership wins, a Whitney Cup would bring a whole new type of satisfaction.
"It would be huge and amazing for the club," he said.
"Coming up through the juniors you always aspire to play first grade and we've always wanted to win it.
"It's even more special because we went through a tough period for a few seasons there and went long time without winning so it's really, really exciting for all the blokes who have put in the hard yards."
Steve admitted Colts have an advantage today in terms of their big match experience but both Skinner brothers said the team unity at Newtown will ease any nerves players might have.
"We've just got to do our thing, if we play like we have been we're in with a shot," Steve said.
"We've got a few established first graders and there's some young guys who are playing in their first season of first grade so it's very exciting for them.
"Hopefully we can keep this side together for the years to come and do what Colts have done."
Mat admitted Colts' impressive batting line-up is likely to build partnerships at different stages but said his team will just have to stay patient and remain alert.
"We're a good all-round unit and everyone knows their role, a good mix of experience and youth always helps," he said.
"We're tidy in the field too, I think we've just about got the best fielding team in the competition when we're on and I think the fielding will be a big part if we're to win it."
Mat has arguably been the standout player in this season's Whitney Cup and despite expectation on him to perform, the opening bowler said he won't be changing anything.
"I'll just keep doing my job, we've got plans in place for each of us so we know our roles," he said.
"I'll just keep on doing what I have been doing because it's seemed to have worked so far."
Today's grand final at No. 1 Oval begins at 1pm.
