Under 16
Newtown 8-166 def CYMS 160
Arguably the best match on grand final day, the under-16s decider went right down to the wire.
In a match featuring some of the most talented up-and-coming players in Dubbo, Newtown snatched victory over CYMS in the second last over winning by just six runs.
After winning the toss Newtown sent CYMS into bat on day one and Luke Ensor and Samuel Thompson made their way to the crease.
Tyler Spang had the perfect line and length and removed Thompson in just the second over before a great caught and bowled from Marty Jeffrey saw Ensor (19) depart.
Daniel Duffy remained at the crease while Will Graham (7) and Brandon Dodd (0) were both caught by wicketkeeper Alex Burke.
Tom Nelson came out to the middle and he saw out the session with CYMS on 4-63.
Newtown opened their innings with Dalton Medcalf and Zaiden Britt but Callan Braithwaite bowled fast and straight to have Britt back in the shed with just the third ball of the first over.
Alex Burke settled well and got the run rate moving along but a catch by wicketkeeper Luke Ensor had him out on 13.
Big hitter Dalton Medcalf (63) took the match away from CYMS with some huge sixes and boundaries before being caught by Samuel Thompson. CYMS changed its bowlers and Daniel Duffy got immediate results as Jeffrey played a shot straight to Patrick Saul to be out for four and Newtown finishing the day 4-89.
Ben Knaggs set about lifting the run rate for Newtown on day two but Tyler Spang (3), Heath Blackett (4) and Ty Webb (5) all came and went around him.
Knaggs was eventually bowled by Daniel Duffy to finish on 56 and CYMS required 103 to win.
Daniel Duffy and Tom Nelson resumed their stint at the crease and found runs hard to come by.
By the fourth over of the day, Heath Blackett took the valuable wicket of Duffy (30). Nelson was caught in the next over by Marty Jeffrey for eight.
The match looked gone for CYMS but Callan Braithwaite and Nathan Hawke dug deep and Braithwaite began to play some big shots to get his team right back in it.
The 85-run partnership looked set to get CYMS home but with only three overs to go, Braithwaite was run out on 52 runs leaving CYMS needing 11 runs to win.
Unfortunately the last few batsmen fell quickly and CYMS fell short of the total giving Newtown a hugely impressive grand final win.
