An emotional Stevenson was left speechless as he accepted his entry at the presentation on Monday after his race on Sunday, where he finished in nine hours 41 minutes 45 seconds.
He was up against a star-studded field of triathletes representing 40 countries at the Ironman Asia Pacific Championships in Melbourne.
Under new elite coach, local Dubbo Pro Triathlete, Matt Pellow, Stevenson produced a swim of 56.32 minutes for the 3800 metre swim in Port Phillip Bay at Frankston. With a 3.23 minute transition to the bike he scorched the East Link Freeway 180km bike course, averaging 37.77 km/h for an overall time of four hours 44 minutes 56 seconds.
Jumping off the bike, Stevenson produced one of the best transition times of the 2,200 competitors in a time of 1.09 minutes to change into his run gear.
In the point-to-point run from Frankston back to St Kilda along the Nepean Highway and the picturesque foreshore of the Port Phillip Bay Stevenson did a very well paced time of three hours 54 minutes and 45 seconds for the 42.2 km marathon.
With only 2,200 competitors accepted into the World Championships from more than 200,000 competitors who attempt the feat, Stevenson's achievement showed his hard work has paid off.
Another local Dubbo competitor, Tom Melhuish, had a finish time of 12 hours 44 minutes with a swim time of 1 hour 14 minutes. He followed that up with a 6 hour 10 minute bike ride and a 5 hour 12 minute marathon. This followed doing a 160km running event only four weeks ago.
He will now travel to Hawaii later in the year and compete at Kona on October 10.
The final local Dubbo Triathlon is this Sunday with registrations commencing at 7.15am at Ollie Robbins Oval, Bligh Street.
