Dubbo City Council are calling on residents to have their say as they put forward the idea for an organic bin at every household.
There are pros and cons for the plan and some were outlined during a discussion at Monday night's council meeting.
We agree, the smell would be one thing that would turn us right off from the plan.
It would need to be a weekly pick up, the same as your regular garbage bin.
Could you imagine the smell from organic matter or garbage in 35-plus degree heat in the middle of summer after a whole fortnight?
It wouldn't be a pretty place to live, we are pretty sure of that.
If you are paying for it, would you use it?
Based on estimated costs, if both bins were picked up on a weekly basis, residents would be adding close to another $100 each year to their annual rates bill, with an $83 annual cost involved.
Is an organic waste bin worth that much of your hard earned money each year?
If the organic waste, or the general waste bin was only collected on a fortnightly basis, you would be looking at an extra $63 per year.
So, it's now time to have your say. It doesn't matter which side you sit on, it's time to tell your councillors what you want - yes to an organic waste collection or no to an organic waste collection.
Make sure you have your say and make your opinion clear so councillors can vote on the proposal knowing what the majority of the community feels.
