RUGBY LEAGUE: Dubbo CYMS' Bernard Wilson believes the upcoming pre-season gala day against Kurri Kurri is a great initiative and something which needs to happen more often in country rugby league.
St John's and their senior side Dubbo CYMS will take on the Kurri Kurri Bulldogs later this month during a day in which matches will be played from under 6s all the way through to first grade. Read more here.
LEAGUE TAG: Dubbo Westside will be among the favourites for this weekend's Western Challenge Ladies League Tag Carnival at Canowindra on Sunday.
Twelve teams have entered the competition and it is set to be an exciting day of play with the best teams from around the central west all in action. Read more here.
INDOOR CRICKET: Although cricket never stops at Dubbo Sports World there is always something new happening with the game and it will be no different this week with the launch of the Milo T20 Blast.
The T20 blast is a program catering for junior players and a Come And Try Day tomorrow afternoon will kick off the initial eight-week program, with a second eight-week program to follow in term three of the school year. Read more here.
CRICKET: The junior representative season has finished for 2014-15 and it has been another hugely successful one for Dubbo sides.

A dying teenager's plea to a female friend for a lasting memory to take to his grave will generate some heat in Dubbo's Wesley Community Centre across four nights this month.
Wesley House Players' latest production of Away by Australian playwright Michael Gow includes a scene between characters Tom and Meg that director Kate Bain calls "very intense".

The well-established and energetic theatre company's bid for school students to join audiences at shows from 7.30pm this Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14, and again on March 20 and 21, hints at the outcome of the young friends' interaction. Read more here.

March 28 is creeping closer.
In November 2013, Playmates Cottage Childcare Centre found out they might be forced out to make way for other facilities in the redevelopment of Dubbo Hospital.
Since then, employees and clients of Playmates have been on a roller coaster ride, raising 10,000 signatures to get the matter debated in state Parliament and signing a 12 month lease extension to keep them in their current facility until at least December 2016.
It has been confirmed by the Liberal-National Coalition they would move Playmates to accommodate the $150 million final stages of the hospital redevelopment.
Playmates have said it would cost more than $1 million to relocate and their 100 childcare places are vital in a community that already has a childcare shortage.

Walter Rupert Tink was a 24-year-old grazier of Benalong, Dubbo, when he enlisted on March 14, 1916 at Menangle Park, Sydney. He was allocated to the 20th Reinforcements for the 7th Light Horse Regiment (NSW).
Not long after he arrived in Egypt, on August 25, 1916, Rupert was admitted to the isolation camp at Moascar with mumps. He was moved to the 24th Stationary Hospital on September 12 and stayed there until October 3, when he rejoined the 2nd Light Horse Training Regiment. However, Rupert was returned to the isolation camp between November 15 and December 10 for reasons unknown. Read more here.

Oyster Bay highly polluted with heavy metals, study finds:
Residents of the well-heeled southern suburb of Oyster Bay have been warned not to take their idyllic surrounds for granted with new research showing the southern bay contains high levels of heavy metals.
A University of Wollongong study of sediment collected from more than 50 sites in Oyster Bay over a year found the area to be "highly contaminated" with lead, zinc and copper, with "moderate" levels of arsenic. Read more here.

As if to confirm his point, the federal Treasurer engaged in a marathon verbal shootout on Tuesday with Dr Collins, the barrister defending Fairfax Media against Mr Hockey, who claims its publications vengefully cast him as a corrupt minister who let businesses and lobbyists influence his decisions in return for bribes in the form of political donations. NSW will need an extra 386 primary school classrooms every year for the next decade to cope with booming enrolments, and more students will be forced back to the public system because Catholic and private schools will run out of room, a new report warns. Read more here.

11 mayors back Brisbane's bid to host 2028 Olympic Games:
REDLAND City mayor Karen Williams was one of 11 mayors to back a bid for Brisbane to host the 2028 Olympic Games.

Skydiving granny: 'when the shoot opened I didn’t want it to end":
Mandurah 91-year-old Joy Jeffes can tick skydiving off her bucket list after jumping out of a plane on Saturday as part of the RSPCA’s Parachute for Paws.

A man who assaulted a woman and threatened their unborn child at Dubbo has avoided a jail term and instead been ordered to serve bonds. The 28-year-old grabbed the victim by the neck twice and also told her to stand up so he could "upper cut" her and said he would not be leaving until the unborn child was dead. Read more here.
Voters in the Dubbo electorate will know on Thursday who has jumped through electoral hoops to vie for the seat at the March 28 state poll.
