Dubbo born Lara Carter, 16, was just another student sitting in a class on Monday, February 23, at a Sydney boarding school, before she became one out of three Australian models chosen to showcase the new Prada collection the following Thursday.
Proud parents Adam and Raisa Carter said they were struggling to absorb how quickly the chain of events turned.
"It all happened very suddenly," Mr Carter said.
When the Carters enrolled Lara and her identical twin, Tamara, they said they were warned how quickly their daughters would be scouted by modelling agencies.
They didn't think it would take less than a week to happen.
Both girls were approached by Priscilla's Model Management where they were given the opportunity to begin compiling portfolios.
Shortly before Christmas, the Carters received a phone call from Priscilla's saying the Italian D Management Agency was coming to Sydney searching to cast Australian models in the Milan Fashion Week.
At the end of the meeting, Mrs Carter said the agency approached Lara and said they would like to manage her.
Tamara declined the offer but Lara chose to give it a shot, which won her as ticket to Milan to model a piece from the Prada Autumn 2015 collection.
Her parents could not have been prouder.
"We woke up at 3.30am that morning to watch the live stream," Mr Carter said.
They both believe it was their daughter's composure and down to earth nature which won the casting agents over.
"She's been so natural and calm this whole time," Mrs Carter said.
"As parents we always thought our daughters were beautiful, but now the world is starting to see it too."
The sky is the limit for Lara, who the Carters said was currently in Paris for more casting opportunities, just a week after walking the runway in Milan.
"She's received a lot of attention from designers and other faces in the industry," she said.
