A great day to enjoy being on the river was spoilt by the irresponsibility of so many people who dumped, tossed and discarded litter in the river thinking no one would know.
The group collected 120 kilograms of rubbish including 14 bags of predominantly takeaway plastic and glass bottles along with lots of takeaway food containers, fragments of foam, tennis balls, a number of cigarette lighters, heaps of discarded fishing line, bits of metal, esky lids and rubber tossed away when river visitors just walk off and leave their rubbish behind.
In the river jammed against and in logs were two shopping trolleys, a small fridge, a recliner lounge chair and a TV.
Fines for littering from a vehicle range from $250 for an individual, $500 for a corporation, to $900 for aggravated littering such as tossing lit cigarette butts in extreme conditions.
