TAMWORTH trainer Leon Davies is planning a four-pronged attack at winning the $100,000 Hunter/North West Country Championship Qualifier (1400m) on his home track on March 12.
The mild mannered horseman has weight of numbers on his side should the quartet all gain starts.
Davies' band will be Crooked Blaze, Gelsomina, Brilliant Poet and St Luke.
"I hope they all measure up and get runs," Davies said.
"I've got my fingers crossed. I'm happy with all the horses going into the race.
"It (Country Championships) is a great concept. It's good money. Everyone is excited about it from all the owners to me. Every region is excited about it.
"Crooked Blaze is probably my best chance but all the others have a chance. I wouldn't be aiming them at it if I didn't think so."
First and second in each of the seven qualifiers across the state qualify for the $300,000 Country Championship Final (1400m) at Royal Randwick on April 4.
Crooked Blaze, a three-year-old by Ad Valorem, cost $25,000 as a yearling at the Classic sale in Sydney and has recorded three wins and five placings from 12 starts. He is raced by a large syndicate headed by Tim Henderson.
"I couldn't be happier with his progress," Davies said. He's been set for this race for a long time.
"He won a barrier trial at Tamworth after a freshen up then ran a great race at Canterbury before winning very impressively by three-and-a-half lengths at Wyong. I may trial him again before the Championship race. I'll just wait and see."
Gelsomina, a four-year-old mare by Strada, has recorded five wins and four placings from 13 starts and is also raced by a syndicate headed by Henderson.
She heads into the Championship qualifier as a last start winner of a Benchmark 70 event at Muswellbrook on February 15 following a 27-day freshen up.
"She's the small ugly duckling, a sway back," Davies said. "She's honest, tough and genuine. She's got a ton of guts.
"Her Muswellbrook win was excellent. Every other horse had their chance to get past her but couldn't. She's improved since Muswellbrook, certainly bot better and come on great.
"The 1400 metres is the query with her but I think she can get it."
Meanwhile, Channel 7's top rating TV show My Kitchen Rules will have a strong presence at the meeting with MKR judge, Manu Feildel the special guest.
The French chef will be joined by new MKR contestants, Will and Steve - both former investment bankers originating from the UK.
