A SOLID performance from a cohesive and well-balanced cricket team has resulted in Dubbo College making the final eight in the statewide Alan Davidson Shield.
Coached by PDHPE teacher Tim Berry, the college side defeated Deniliquin High School last Friday and will come up against either Picnic Point or Kiama High School in the next round.
In the Deniliquin match Dubbo College bowled first and bowled their opposition out for just 71 runs.
Standout bowlers for Dubbo included Marty Jeffrey (4-12 from eight overs) and Aidan Shields (2-12 from two overs), with strong support from Mike Jeffrey and Adlai Shipp, who both took a wicket each.
The Dubbo side passed the Deniliquin total with the bat, making 6-77 with Dalton Medcalf (18), Kurt Davenport (14) and Tyler Woodrow (13) all contributing well.
Berry said he is proud of the team and their achievements.
"The boys are a cohesive group and they all contribute to a well-balanced and highly skilled team," he said.
"It's not just a matter of relying on a couple of players, because every one of them has the ability to perform really well."
Dubbo College has a long history of achievement in the Alan Davidson Shield and made the final of the competition in 2007, with Tim Armstrong and Ryan Medley part of the team coached by Wayne Dunlop.
In that year the side went down to Westfields Sport High School in the final.
The previous year the College was defeated in the quarter finals by Endeavour Sports High School.
In 2004 the Dubbo College girls' cricket team, coached by Craig May, became state champions.
Craig also coached the Dubbo High School open boys' side to the final in 1999, only to be defeated by Taree High School.
