About 5am on Saturday an 18-year-old woman was breath-tested in Macquarie Street.

She was charged with having low-range prescribed concentration of alcohol.

At 6.45pm on Saturday a 53-year-old man was charged with the same offence in White Street.

Then at 7.30pm a 37-year-old man was tested during a random breath testing operation in Cobbora Road.

He was charged with having a mid-range prescribed concentration of alcohol.

Acting Inspector Malcolm Andrews said a reading of between 0.05 and 0.079 – the low-range offence – doubled drivers’ chances of having a crash.

The higher the blood alcohol level the worse the risk.

At 0.08 to 0.149 – the mid-range – people were four times as likely to have a crash, he said.

With a reading of 0.150 and greater they were 25 times as likely.

Acting Inspector Andrews said people risked their safety, having a crash, having their licence suspended and if they relied on their licence as part of their employment, they risked their job by drink-driving.

 “We’re out there enforcing drink-driving and drug-driving legislation,” he said.
