CYMS and Rugby under-16s played the match of the round in Dubbo Junior Cricket last weekend, with the Cougars eventually getting the better of their rivals in a high-scoring contest.
After the two sides were tied on 95 runs each after the first day week two was always going to be an exciting match and it did not disappoint.
The ladder-leading Cougars chose to bat first on a green pitch which drew plenty of movement from fast bowler Tyler Woodrow.
As a result by the third over he had taken the wickets of openers Brandan Dodd and Nathan Hawke for 13 runs.
Will Graham combined with Daniel Duffy to bat consistently throughout the day and finish on 2-95.
Rugby opened with Kel Rumble and Charlie Beatty and in almost the same scenario as CYMS both batsmen were bowled out by the fourth over with the score on 18 runs.
Mitchell Smith and Pat Berryman got the score ticking along but newcomer to cricket this season, Euan Truscott bowled Mitchell Smith for nine runs.
Pat Berryman continued strongly on day two and top-scored for Rugby with 54 before he was caught by Will Graham off the bowling of Callan Braithwaite.
Other Rugby batters to get among the runs were Ben Thornton (31), Jack Baker (23), Adlai Shipp (21) and Tyler Woodrow (19). Wickets were taken by Callan Braithwaite (3-23), Brandan Dodd (2-30) and Dean Burgess (2-27) and some great catches were also taken by Dean Burgess.
CYMS resumed their innings chasing 205 and found the session extremely tough due to the tight bowling of Tyler Woodrow and Logan Watmore.
The run rate was very slow and Rugby's total seemed unachievable but by the 34th over Will Graham found his rhythm and finally retired on 101 runs while others who contributed were Daniel Duffy (33) and Tom Nelson (27).
Charlie Beatty took one of the best one handed catches seen in the season and Jones Comerford's slow ball had Callan Braithwaite stumped by Pat Berryman for four.
Line and length bowling by Tyler Woodrow (2-28) and Logan Watmore (2-27) was the best of the Rugby bowling attack but CYMS managed to chase the target in the final over.
In the other under-16s match Newtown got the better of St John's.

In the under-14B division CYMS (144) defeated Macquarie Blue (101).
From the moment Macquarie Blue won the toss and elected to bat, the boys in blue were on song.
They were able to get away to an impressive 4-76 after 23 overs due to a few good partnerships where the opening three batsmen all contributed, especially opening bat and skipper Rhys French who scored a very well made 30 to start the innings off.
Macquarie tore through the CYMS top order, having them crumble to 7-57 at the end of the day's play with all of the Macquarie boys sharing the wickets.
On day two a partnership between the Chaseling brothers saw CYMS level the scores before losing their first wicket of the day with the score on 77, and it only got better from there for CYMS.
The ninth wicket partnership between Gilbert Chaseling and Quincy Ross showed exactly why the Cougars are undefeated.
They were able to have a mammoth stand of 60 runs before Gilbert was forced to retire on 50, Nathan Burgess achieved seven runs before he was bowled over by an absolute cracker of a delivery by Sam Henderson.
In his return to the crease; Gilbert was unable to continue with his unbelievable knock, being dismissed by a Will Schwagger yorker on his first ball in his second stint at the crease.
With Macquarie in a matter of 23 overs now having their backs against the wall they had no answer to the great bowling performance of CYMS.
Macquarie lost all six of their remaining wickets in 14 overs and were only able to muster up another 24 runs to their overnight score.
That concludes an astounding fightback from CYMS in a display that shows why they are still undefeated and are clear favourites to win the under 14B competition.
In the other matches RSL Colts (3-226) defeated Newtown (8-175) and Macquarie White (4-182) beat Rugby (8-106).
