The tournament was played at Niagara Park, with three Dubbo teams making the trip and it was the Dubbo 1 team, consisting of Helen McGee, Leanne Medcalf, Kay Poulter, Mary Ann Waters, Tracey Hardie-Jones, Cheryl Rutherford, Tracey Baker and Robyn Millar that brought home the prize.
In their first match against Central Coast 2, the Dubbo side led 1-0 at half-time and appeared they would cruise as winners of the match. However, from the hit-off in the second half, Dubbo let their guard down and Central Coast scored two quick goals in succession.
Dubbo let the game slip from their grasp and went down 3-1 with the match turning out to be their only loss of the tournament.
After that match they faced Sydney 2, who had been a real solid performer in the past.
Dubbo did not let this deter them and won the match 5-1.
Their first game on the second day of the tournament was an early encounter against Macarthur 1.
Dubbo was able to contain their strong playmaker in the backs and shut down all possible gaps in play.
The match was a tight affair with Dubbo netting the winning goal just before full-time taking the score to 3-2.
That afternoon, Dubbo's next encounter was against Goulburn, who defeated them the previous year in the semi-final.
Not wanting a repeat of the previous year's semi-final defeat the Dubbo girls were extremely tight in defence as well as stepping up their attack, and ran away with a 5-2 win.
After the preliminary rounds, Dubbo finished second in their pool and had to be at the stadium bright and early for the first match on the final day, a cross-over semi-final.
The semi was played against Central Coast 1, who had a band of strong supporters.
Dubbo had to ensure they played smart hockey to ensure a spot in the final, and moved the ball around the court with speed.
At the half-time hooter, Dubbo was up 2-0. The players ensured they were alert from the half-time whistle to continue with their goal-scoring opportunities. On two separate occasions, the players pounced on two loose balls which they slotted home to take the match 4-0.
In the final, they met Macarthur 1 again, who were placed first in their pool.
Because they had played Macarthur previously, they were wise to their game plan.
The final was played at a slower pace than the semi as both teams were trying different tactics to get the ball through each others defence. Play see-sawed from end to end, with Dubbo scoring a nice goal before half-time.
In the second half, they produced some great hockey, using the boards and passing to each other.
Macarthur managed to level the score with a goal, however, Dubbo rallied with excellent play and netted a goal just before full-time to win the Division 2 Championship.
Dubbo has improved their position since their inaugural year in Division 5, working their way up the divisions, and most of the players have been in this team for the past eight years.
The team is looking forward to Division 1 in 2016 and will have a good crack at the title.
The team was very lucky to be coached by Scott New, who has coached field hockey at Australian and state level, and the results of that coaching showed with the performances.
All of the players would like to thank Scott for his time and hope to see him next year showing them the way in Division 1.
