Former Western Zone quick Potter went wicketless last weekend when the two sides met in the final round of the competition but Ellis said his talent was obvious.
With a place in the grand final against Wellington up for grabs, the skipper believes the early stages of his side's innings will be crucial to the outcome.
"We're hoping to get the same sort of results against Wade so we can then go on and build partnerships," he said.
"That's the area that if we get right, we know our guys have the skills to get through the rest of their attack.
"That's not to say they don't have other good bowlers but we really need to knuckle down against Wade because he's a gifted cricketer."
Dubbo ran out 42-run winners last Sunday but there have been a number of changes to Ellis' team.
With junior representative cricket resuming tomorrow the likes of Marty Jeffrey, Pat Berryman and Ben Knaggs are all out while Stuart Naden and Sean Mason are also unavailable.
This has seen some more experienced heads called up with Dan French, Dan Holland and Tom Carruthers all in while Lachlan Harper and Dalton Medcalf ensure the side remains predominately made up of younger players.
"We're fortunate that those guys can step up and fill in with a few of our regulars out," Ellis said.
"There's a bit more experience and they'll be ready for the boost of semi-final cricket because it is different to regular season games and I expect Cobar to bring their best.
"But in saying that I've been thoroughly impressed by the application and dedication shown by the younger players this season."
This season has marked the first time Dubbo has used the Brewery Shield side as a place to develop future representative players.
Sunday's match begins at 10am.
