January brings a lot of visitors to Dubbo Golf Club. On Wednesday, the numbers were boosted with players from Bankstown, Cobar, Wellington, Bonnie Doon and Orange Ex-Services clubs.
Then last Saturday the field included players from Murrumbidgee Country Club, Bankstown, Royal Sydney, Penrith and Darling River.
On Wednesday, January 14 in A-grade Nathan Jones had a very solid 39 stableford points playing off eight handicap while Chris Tongue (15) returned 38 points to claim second place on a countback from Lloyd Campbell also 38.
In B-grade Gavin Williams played in his first competition and used his 35 handicap to advantage to post a great round of 46 points.
Second place went to Phil Reynolds (19) with 39 points on a countback from Dennis McGrath.
Scores of 35 points or better after a countback won golf balls.
Nearest the pin winners were 5th Bob Sharman 318cm; 8th Struan Pearce 600cm; 23rd David Gleeson 219cm; 26th Nick Coggan 134cm.
To figure in the Monkey Business players needed 35 points or better to beat Jake O'Brien's scores.
On Saturday an excellent field of 161 teed off in the competition to play a team's event where the best three out of four scores counted on each hole.
Team winners were Steven Colliver, Geoff Shuttle, David Powe and Nick Wilson with 128 points, edging out Errol Toomey, Len Swan, Errol Sampson and Mick Kelly (128) on a countback.
An amazing 11 points on one hole, a five, and two three pointers, helped the winners.
Best individual result for the day was Rob Caton's 43 points, beating Nathan Finlay on a countback with Alex McCormack and Peter McQuillan both having 41.
Ball competition went to players with 37 points on a countback.
Nearest the pins: 11th James Morrow 154cm; 15th Randall Richardson 211cm; 18th Max Hassan 170cm; 26th Peter McQuillan 78cm. Better than 33 points was needed to figure in the Monkey Business.
Sunday saw a small but keen field of 26 players go around in the medley fourball with individual in conjunction.
Sue and Garry Button had 47 points to edge out Marie Roberts and Harry Coggan also 47 points and best individual cards were Sue Button 37 and Chris Reardon 34.
Best of the men were Rob Reardon 41 and Max Reid 40.
Nearest the pins: 18th ladies Sue Button; men Ray Moulds 440cm; 26th ladies Patsy Wrigley 700cm; men Max Reid 92cm.
