The Cougars recorded their second win of the season last week when they defeated defending premiers Rugby by 79 runs.
That win saw the men in green move off the bottom of the ladder, leapfrogging today's opponents.
Souths come into the clash after going down to RSL-Colts last week, a match which saw them skittled for just 91 runs.
Rectifying those problems with the bat will be captain Tim Berry's number one priority today with the skipper, Asher Robins, Adam Wells and Matt Finlay all looking to lead from the front.
Berry will be keen to see his side overturn their inconsistency and return to the kind of form which saw the Hornets defeat competition leaders Newtown in the final round before the Christmas and New Year's break.
The biggest challenge for the Cougars today will be to cover the absence of some key figures.
Captain Ben O'Donnell is unavailable this weekend, also missing last night's McDonald's Megahit match, while a huge blow is the unavailability of Ben Strachan.
Strachan has provided some genuine intimidation with the new ball, building pressure and taking wickets.
Corey Suckling, who took the new-ball last week with Strachan, has returned to university in Wollongong now and won't feature again this season but the Cougars are boosted by the return of Matt Ellis.
Ellis was a standout during the first half of the season, acting as a rock in the middle of the order and contributing valuable scores regularly.
With openers Ryan Medley and Stuart Naden finding top form last week and Harry Brennan also past 250 runs for the season, the Cougars will again be looking to pile on the runs.
Today's match starts at 1pm.
