Triple J Hottest 100: Has Taylor Swift been dumped from contention due to KFC ad?
Triple J has refused to confirm whether the station has disqualified Hottest 100 votes for Taylor Swift after a former presenter said a fast-food advertisement had cruelled the campaign to have her included.
Angela Catterns told the ABC TV show The Drum that Swift was out of contention "because a fast food chain became involved in the whole process". Yesterday KFC endorsed Swift for the annual Australia Day countdown. Triple J's rules for the countdown state the station "reserves the right to remove artists from the list who have benefited from competitions or commercial campaigns that incentivise fans to vote for them". Big game and some big names for Litisha Boney:
Dubbo's Litisha Boney will be rubbing shoulders with the biggest names in rugby league next month after being selected in the Indigenous Women's All Stars team for the NRL All Stars weekend at the Gold Coast.
Boney's Indigenous All Stars will play the Australian Women's All Star team, the Jillaroos, as the curtain-raiser for the NRL All Stars match where the likes of Greg Inglis, Johnathon Thurston and Paul Gallen will all be in action. Read more here.
City sides starting to show a touch of class | Photos
Day two of the State Challenge at Dubbo yesterday saw the metropolitan teams start to show their class in the under-14s division.
All four sides from Sydney; West City Scorpions, South City Sharks, North City Silverbacks and the East City Stallions all won yesterday.
That makes it two consecutive wins for the Scorpions, Sharks and Silverbacks, giving them a great opportunity to make Thursday's finals. Read more here.
Skinner's knock helps set up victory for Newtown:
Newtown have kept hold of their position in the McDonald's Megahit finals spots after a tight, 10-run win over the Cricketer's Arms Journeymen last Friday night.
The Tigers came into the match with one win and one loss under their belt but a half century from captain Mat Skinner set up victory number two.
Returning to No. 1 Oval for the first time since November, Newtown posted 5-131 from their 20 overs and despite the Journeymen being well placed at 2-61 after ten overs they could only manage 9-121 in reply. Read more here.

University entrance: The wait is over for more than 85,000 hopefuls:
When universities release their main round offers on Wednesday evening, the pool will have shrunk by almost 10 per cent from last year, to 46,507 offers.
Almost half of the 85,000 hopefuls will miss out on their course of choice.
But there's a catch: universities are not accepting fewer students this year, they're just jumping the gun and locking down enrolments through early entry programs.

Education costs rising for families:
Dubbo parents could pay between $54,421 to $343,385 to educate a child born this year from pre-school to year 12.
A study by the Australian Scholarships Group (ASG) has found that for a child born in 2015, the total education costs in regional NSW could add up to $54,421 for public schooling, $161,231 for systemic schooling and $343,385 for private schooling. Read more here.

Violence against women reduced through apprehended violence orders, survey shows:
An overwhelming majority of women who take out apprehended violence orders believe they are effective in deterring violent partners, a new survey reveals.
The NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research study also showed 98 per cent of women who experienced physical violence, no longer did after taking out an AVO.
But the recent death of Sydney hairdresser Leila Alavi, who had taken out an AVO against her husband, was one of the many instances where the orders have been unable to prevent tragedy. Read more here.

Robert Allenby has reportedly rewarded the homeless woman who he has credited with saving his life.
In a reunion filmed by Channel 7 news, Charade Keane was reunited with the golfer who she helped after he was assaulted near a Honolulu wine bar. Read more here.
Newsagents fear the worst with lottery law:
Sydney's newsagents have described the NSW government's plan to open up lottery sales to supermarkets as the "last straw" for the struggling industry.

A federal review of the visas issued to actors, entertainers and film crews could cost Australian jobs, according to the star of the much-loved Australian movie The Castle.
Actor Michael Caton has joined with the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) and the Labor opposition in warning that proposed changes to the Temporary Worker (entertainment) visa poses a threat to Australian film and television workers.
The so-called subclass 420 visa is used to bring in overseas actors and crew to Australia and the government quietly announced a review of it last week and released a discussion paper. Read more here.

William Tyrell disappearance: murder detectives raid properties searching for evidence:
Homicide police have raided properties on the state's mid-north coast in the search for missing toddler William Tyrell, with detectives now almost certain the three-year-old was abducted.
It is understood computer equipment and a single mattress was seized from a unit in Laurieton, south of Port Macquarie, searched as part of the ongoing investigation into the little boy's disappearance four months ago.
The items are expected to undergo urgent forensic examination as police continue their inquiries. Read more here.

One direction: Do Mount Panorama tourists know road is two-way?
Bathurst residents are calling for significant changes to signage on the public road at Mount Panorama following an accident on the weekend that claimed the life of a Yetholme man and seriously injured a 14-year-old girl.
The Bathurst 1000 race track that weaves around Mount Panorama is a public road. Residents believe further fatalities could occur if motorists are not made fully aware that the road on Mount Panorama runs in both directions. Read more here.

Segway tours along the Tracker Riley Cycleway could become a drawcard for Dubbo if the NSW Government approves a plan put forward by the local council.
Dubbo Mayor Mathew Dickerson said if visitors to the city could take part in organised rides on the two-wheeled, battery-powered electric vehicles it would be "fantastic for tourism". Read more here.
Higher subscription number of DRTCC's 2015 theatre season:
It seems Dubbo has embraced the theatre with a significant increase in the number of people signing up for subscription packages.
Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) manager Linda Christof said 253 subscriptions to the 2015 Theatre Season had been sold this year, compared to 176 in 2014.
Subscribers are those who booked and paid for a minimum of five shows from the season brochure during the subscription period from November 16 to January 16. Read more here.

Dubbo MP Troy Grant has called on the community to have their say on social housing at community forums being held across New South Wales, including one at Dubbo. The NSW government has released Social Housing in NSW: A discussion paper for input and comment. Read more here.
Lawrence calls for answers on the future of Playmates:
It would be a disgrace if the NSW government hasn't secured the future of Playmates Cottage by the time they enter caretaker mode, according to Country Labor candidate for Dubbo, Stephen Lawrence.
Mr Lawrence accused the Dubbo MP Troy Grant and the government of arrogance when it comes to announcing whether Playmates will be able to stay in its current location on the grounds of Dubbo Hospital or be required to move to a new location when stages three and four of the hospital redevelopment take place. Organisations have charity status revoked:
Organisations with addresses at Mudgee, Condobolin and White Cliffs are four of more than 110 in NSW to have their charity status revoked. The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) took the step during its clean up of the national charity register. Across Australia 392 charities had their charity status revoked.
