A list compiled by staff at Dubbo Macquarie Regional Library has revealed the top five popular titles for the two month period.
Personal by Lee Child topped the list of popular adult fiction titles in the Dubbo branch, followed closely by Outback Ghost by Rachel Johns.
Macquarie Regional Library branch manager Jocelyn Morris said the popularity of books was often translated by the popularity of the author.
"If they're well-known, then we usually purchase multiple copies," Mrs Morris said.
Crime fiction and true crime were very popular among adult readers, she said.
"Especially authors like John Grisham."
Bryce Courtney's The Silver Moon was the most read adult non-fiction over the Christmas period as well as the controversial Chase your shadow: the trials of Oscar Pistorius by John Carlin.
The top title in the junior fiction section was won by renowned author Emily Rodda with her Deltora Quest: Land of the Dragons.
52 Storey Treehouse by Andy Griffiths was also high on the list, which was the inspiration behind many of the school holiday activities this year, manager of services and collections, Lindy Allan, said.
"Our borrowing numbers in audios have also been high," Mrs Allan said.
"A lot of people travelling tend to borrow them for the road."
The most popular adult audio was Takedown Twenty by Janet Evanovich.
DVDs were also on high demand with both adult and children borrowers alike.
The Grand Budapest Hotel and Guardians of the Galaxy were the top two picks for adults, with Dear Dracula and Shaun the Sheep winning over dozens of children.
The classic infotainment Ripley's Believe it or Not and Where's Wally were the two most popular items borrowed in the two month period for Dubbo readers.
But, it is not just the hard copy books in the library which have been walking off the shelves.
The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion was the most borrowed E-Book, and also the fourth most popular adult fiction book.
E-magazines were incredibly popular with library members, Mrs Allan said.
"This month's Better Homes and Gardens has been borrowed 38 times so far," she said.
The beauty of borrowing e-magazines was, unlike e-books, they do not have a return date," she said.
