CELEBRITY: In a stunt which seemed driven purely by a desire to show off Australian actor Chris Hemsworth's body in a drenched white shirt, the star of the Thor films has faced off with US talk show host Jimmy Fallon in a water war. The 31-year-old actor, who was appearing on Fallon's New York-basedTonight Show to promote his new film Blackhat, was challenged by the host to a game of "Water War."

2015 Television shows: In Australia, the launch of paid streaming services such as Stan, Netflix and Presto is going to unleash some of the world's best new content. And from the traditional players on the landscape comes a slew of new programming, across all genres, which is, while untested, at least promising.

Risqué Scene in Girls: It's the scene that left a few mouths wide open – quite literally – as another season began for HBO's hit drama Girls. The series is acclaimed for offering an honest and incisive take on the neurotic lives and sexual escapades of a group of twenty-something women living in New York; something akin to Sex & The City for a new generation.

CRICKET: There isn't much in country cricket that Dubbo's Tim Cox hasn't achieved and despite him being closer to the end of his career than the beginning he attained an incredible honour this week which he has never reached before. Cox was part of the NSW Country side which competed at the Australian Country Championships in Bendigo and at the conclusion of the carnival on Monday night he was named in the Australian Country squad.

RUGBY LEAGUE: The weather may have been warm lately and summer sports are in full swing but that hasn't stopped local rugby league clubs beginning their preparations for the 2015 season.

VANDALISM AT PIONEER PARK: Dubbo City Council admit the installation of security cameras could become an option if the vandalism at West Dubbo's Pioneer Park continues.

RACING: Local horse racing could be set to profit from a decrease of betting taxes in NSW, according to Dubbo Turf Club president Michael Edwards. As reported in a Sydney newspaper leading racing figures, including Hall of Fame trainer John Hawkes and NSW racing commentator and buyer David Raphael called to bring taxes in line with other Australian states.

8am: Have you see this unhappy elephant take on a car? It's mating season for elephants at the moment and this guy got a bit territorial on this tourist car near Bangkok this week. Luckily no one was injured. 

7.54: Taking an in-depth look at today's front page

Sticks and Stones owner Glenys Hubbard was devastated to find the business she and her husband have worked so hard to build up was the target of a petty theft yesterday.

In the early hours of yesterday morning thieves broke a glass door panel and raced into the Macquarie Street premises, grabbing the tip jar before running off.

It triggered the alarms within the property but the morally corrupt thieves were still able to get away before police could arrive.

ALEX McKINNON STANDS UP: Newcastle Knights footballer Alex McKinnon is continuing to amaze and delight fans with his progress, following revelations that he has stood unassisted for the first time since his devastating spinal injury. McKinnon was badly injured in a tackle in an NRL game last March, which left the 22-year-old in a wheelchair. The former Knights forward has returned to Newcastle following rehabilitation in Sydney and coach Rick Stone says he's now able to stand without assistance. 

WA ROAD FATALITIES: A startling increase in road fatalities in regional WA has police and the state government concerned despite Australia recording its lowest national road toll in 69 years in 2014. There were 1155 fatalities on Australian roads last year which is the lowest figure since 1945. However, the 184 fatalities on Western Australian roads last year was at a four year high and the 102 deaths in regional areas was a 39 per cent increase from 2013. 

ARREST FOLLOWING POLICE PURSUIT: A 22-year-old man has been arrested over the theft of a car from Kingsford last week. The man is thought to be Christopher Chandler, the alleged driver wanted for stealing a charcoal-coloured Audi A4 sedan from Anzac Parade at Kingsford last week, however police have not confirmed this. The man was arrested at a home in Gorokan on the Central Coast and taken to Wyong Police Station where he was assisting police with inquiries. The same Audi was involved in a police pursuit at about 7pm at Constitution Hill, west of Parramatta, that resulted in the death of 17-month-old Tateolena Tauaifaga on Wednesday last week.

FIRIES LOSE HELICOPTER: NSW's urban fire fighting force says it has been left under equipped after the state government decided to sell a helicopter used to battle extreme fires and rescue people from floodwaters. Fire and Rescue NSW says the loss of the helicopter, which was in high demand during the 2013 Blue Mountains bushfires, is "a concern".It means the nation's busiest firefighting force does not have dedicated aerial support.

CHARLIE HEBDO ATTACK: Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has claimed responsibility for last week's deadly attack on Charlie Hebdo in a video posted on a Twitter account. One of the group's top commanders says the assault was in revenge for the French weekly's publications of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. The claim came in a video posting by Nasr al-Ansi, a top commander of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP as the branch is known, which appeared on the group's Twitter account. In the 11-minute video, al-Ansi says the assault on Charlie Hebdo, which killed 12 people - including editors, cartoonists and journalists, as well as two police officers - was in "revenge for the prophet". 

 PAIR INDICTED FOR MURDER:  The man who allegedly bludgeoned his girlfriend's mother to death with a fruit bowl in a Bali hotel and then stuffed her body into a suitcase has been indicted for premeditated murder. The trial of the grisly case, which has become known as the "Bali body in the suitcase murder", began in Denpasar District Court on Wednesday. The dead woman's daughter, who is seven months pregnant, has also been indicted for assisting premeditated murder. The pair could face the firing squad if found guilty and the maximum penalty is invoked.

7.29: Taking a look at the news from regional Australia

COURT: Robert Joseph Goodwin was granted bail on Monday despite previously being denied freedom for allegations including trying to run police over with a motorbike and being in the possession of $60,000 worth of stolen goods. The goods included a range of weapons such as samurai swords, a dagger, an ornamental axe and fighting blades. 

RURAL: Drought-stricken farmers in north-west NSW would be drooling if they drove past Michael Cook’s market gardens on Gormans Hill Road. While Mr Cook’s bread and butter is cauliflowers – supplemented by some corn – he’s also making hay while the sun shines. Sitting on the side of a hill on his property are 1600 bales of silage. 

UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY: A Shoalhaven photographer has recorded the world’s first known image of an oceanic shark giving birth. Attila Kaszo from Tomerong shot the remarkable image while photographing pelagic thresher sharks in the Philippines.  Mr Kaszo unknowingly shot the image during an early morning dive about 30 metres under water where the sharks visit shallow seamounts for cleansing purposes. Read on.

ZIG ZAG RAILWAY:  It has been the most frequently asked question from tourists in the Lithgow region this summer: "When is the Zig Zag Railway reopening?" The world famous but beleaguered tourist attraction has faced countless trials and tribulations since operations were disrupted for regulatory upgrades in June 2012.

POLICING: A woman four times the legal blood-alcohol limit for a fully licensed driver told police she had two glasses of alcohol about six hours before she was pulled over for swerving across the middle of the road. Candace Dubbelde, of Betula Street, was seen swerving left and right to the opposite side of the road and then back into the gutter at about 12.45am on Friday, November 7.

THREATS AND ASSAULTS AT EDUCATION DEPARTMENT: Last year's Astley Cup rugby league brawl was one of a string of violent incidents in western NSW schools contained in a new report made public by the NSW Department of Education and Communities this week. The Incident reporting in schools - Term 2, 2014 report contained details of 35 incidents, the lowest number reported for the region since term 1, 2013.

DUBBO HOSPITAL UPGRADE: Dubbo Hospital will soon become one of the first hospitals in the state to be equipped with digital operating theatres as construction continues on the redevelopment. The six new operating theatres are part of the $91.3 million Dubbo Hospital Redevelopment Stages One and Two.

NURSING IN RURAL AREAS: Dubbo Health Service nurse Sue McNicol is hoping to give a voice to regional NSW with her appointment to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, NSW Board. Ms McNicol was awarded Dubbo Hospital 2014 Nurse of the Year and will represent local nurses and patients on the board, which supports the work of the national body in the areas of nurse registration, accreditation, standards and codes, complaints and investigations.The endorsed enrolled nurse only started her training seven years ago and has managed to achieve great things in that time.

EVOCITIES REVIEW WANTED: Dubbo councillors have called for the review of the Evocities brand before funding the initiative for a further three years. Orana Chair of Regional Development Australia (RDA) and Dubbo City Councillor, John Walkom said Evocities was a "brand worth pursuing". "From all reports it's working well and the results of people interested in moving to Dubbo and have moved have been very positive," he said.

HOUSING NSW HAS TO RESOLVE DISPUTE: Housing NSW says it is working to resolve a dispute between two public housing tenants that recently escalated because of an overhanging shrub. A South Dubbo resident told the Daily Liberal she had complained to Housing NSW "at least five times in the past two months" because she was concerned the shrub blocked visibility and her neighbour had threatened to physically harm her if she cut it.

COMMITTEE DISCUSSES MEMORIAL FOR MINERS: A Committee is currently working on plans for a new memorial wall, in recognition for miners who lost their lives at work in the Cobar Shire. The memorial wall will be placed in Heritage Park, opposite the Great Cobar Heritage Centre. The list of names and dates of those killed is being compiled by staff at the Heritage Centre.

iPADS AT TIMBREBONGIE HOUSE: Loved ones don't seem so far away for Timbrebongie House residents after receiving several new iPads. After receiving a grant from the Vincent Faifax Family Foundation, Timbrebongie house has purchased iPads and covers for residents. According to Jan Brook, this will make connecting with loved ones much easier.
