BATHURST Bushrangers president Graeme Grundy said he is confident that a Central West AFL reserve grade competition will go ahead in 2015, but admitted he had grave doubts about the future of the under 18s premiership.

A day after it was revealed by CWAFL general manager Tony Lewis that there were question marks over both Dubbo and Cowra fielding sides in the under 18s and reserves competitions, Grundy had his say on the issue.
Like the Orange Tigers, the Bushrangers sit in a position of relative strength and should not need to worry about numbers in 2015.
Unfortunately some of the other clubs don't share that luxury, though Grundy is still hopeful that the reserves situation won't change too much.
"I spoke to a committee member from Dubbo on the weekend who said that they are reasonably confident that they will have enough players to field a reserves team," he said.
"They did battle a lot with their under 18s last season and from what I can gather, that is another story altogether, but they think the reserves will be okay.
"Mick Haley is back in charge of their club, he's been around a long time with the Demons and hopefully he can get things up and going for them again. You'd hope he could anyway."
Grundy had a different take on Cowra's situation though and with two teams set to depart the under 18s, it would make a competition unlikely as it would only feature Orange, Bathurst and Young.
"I would be surprised if Cowra were any stronger overall in 2015 than they were last year, I know the indications are that they won't have the numbers for either grade," he said.
"With Mudgee having a reserves team, as well as Dubbo, us and Orange, I think the competition would still be okay.
"But it would be a massive shame if the under 18s were to fold. It wouldn't break us, I think most of our kids coming up are confident enough to step into senior footy.
"I'd still like to think there will be a competition for the 18s one way or the other.
"I think it is a bit disappointing the way the league has approached things in recent times, I don't believe they've looked at the big picture with a lot of strategic planning to help ensure the strength of the competition."
