Mr Cockrum was full of superlatives for the event saying it had "the largest crowd we'd ever had" and was overall "the best ever".
He was only expecting about 4000 people, but Mr Cockrum said more than 5000 turned up to sing their favourite Christmas songs.
"The weather was beautiful, the crowd was even better. The carols were fantastic," he said.
Mr Cockrum said he believed the increase in numbers this year was due to a number of national events that left people looking for something happy to participate in.
"When tragedy strikes, people want to be part of a community."
Electric candles, glow sticks and sparklers, such as those distributed by Jackson Gibb and Sarah Wonderley were all used to light up Victoria Park Number 1 Oval.
It was Mr Cockrum's 10th year organising the event and Lindy Blekemore's 15th year performing at the carols.
Mr Cockrum said the Rotary Club of Dubbo West was proud to provide the carols and looked forward to being joined by everyone again in 2015.
