They've brushed aside all who have come before them so far this season but if Newtown are to head into the mid-season break undefeated they're going to have to produce their best Whitney Cup effort so far this summer.
The Tigers were met with a batting masterclass from South Dubbo last week and today require 343 for victory today but captain Mat Skinner said his competition-leading side was high on confidence and capable of reaching the imposing total.
"Everyone in our top five is capable of making hundreds but we need someone to go on and get that big one and others to stay there and work around him," he said.
"A massive key is to set that early platform, they did it well last week and were none down after the first session and only one or two after the second and set a really good launching platform."
Skinner admitted he was impressed by Souths last week as Adam Wells' century powered the Hornets past 300. With the likes of Tim Berry and Matt Finlay ensuring they're at their best today the Tigers skipper knows his side is going to have to dip deep.
"We've made things hard for ourselves but Souths batted really well last week and it's going to have to be a big effort from us," he said.
"Souths have got a really good team and I wouldn't be surprised if they knock over a lot of teams this season, especially when they've got their full team in.
"They've got a deep batting line-up and a handy bowling attack and you can revolve a side around a bloke like 'Bezz' (Berry)."
Newtown's task will be made more difficult with breakout all-rounder Nick Cushan unavailable after having his appendix out during the week and a lot will now rely on the opening partnership of Wayne Dunlop and Dan Holland.
Mat and brother Steve Skinner follow that while Dan French is also capable of making runs as the Tigers look to record their second win over Souths this season.
"We scored 400 last time we played them but that was a different game and we've got to expect a different challenge each time plus they've got 'Bezz' back and he boosts them massively and having Finlay too, those two bowl minimal loose balls and we're a man down because Nick Cushan is out," Skinner said.
While Skinner admits there is a huge amount of work today he did speak about the chance of going through the first half of the season undefeated, something few expected before this season's Whitney Cup began.
"Going to Christmas undefeated would be massive, I don't really know how else to word it, no one would really believe it but we've just got to make sure we come out after Christmas with the same attitude," he said.
