Somewhat surprisingly, Kinetic Sand is the most popular item this Christmas, according to Uncle Pete's Toys and Hobbies manager David Haylock.
"I have no idea why it's so popular, I couldn't pick it, but kids love it," he said.
Kinetic Sand has special properties that make it soft and stretchy, and fun to mold and play with.
Anything related to the Disney movie Frozen has also made it onto Christmas list for Santa to bring to a lot of Dubbo boys and girls.
LalaLoopsy dolls, Live Little Pets that record and playback voices, electric powered scooters and anything remote control were also high on the agenda.
But it appears the more traditional toys like animal figures, Moose brand toys, Wahu products like water toys, water guns, Nerf guns and slip and slides are up there with the best modern toys.
Aerobies, Frizbees and sensory toys are also making their way back into the good books.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Minecraft has peaked recently and themed Lego is always popular, Mr Haylock said.
The Uncle Pete's manager said more parents are still encouraging their children to go outside, so scooters and the Little Trikes range for younger children are also popular.
Choice Australia spokesperson Matt Level said parents need to be weary when purchasing toys.
"Look for a label, or instructions on the packaging, which should tell you age recommendations, instructions for proper assembly, proper use and supervision," he said.
"Buy washable, non-breakable toys for babies- make sure there are no sharp edges, sharp points, rough surfaces and small parts."
