Joshua William Allan Mealey pleaded guilty to supplying MDMA (ecstasy) when he appeared before Magistrate Andrew Eckhold.
Prosecution facts said Mealey, 20, of Dubbo, and Nicholas Aaron Turunen, 25, of Warragamba, were standing together when officers walked through the bar area of the Castlereagh Hotel at 1.20am on September 28.
Police said Turunen handed Mealey a $50 note. Mealey passed a small tablet to Turunen who dropped it.
Mealey bent down to retrieve the tablet and handed it to Turunen with a $20 note.
Police grabbed Turunen's hand and he produced a small heart-shaped tablet.
Mealey told police he had been given an ecstasy tablet earlier in the evening and wanted to get rid of it.
The court heard the drug supply offence put Mealey in breach of a bond for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
"It was an opportunistic offence involving one tablet," a solicitor said.
"The co-accused was dealt with by the court without conviction."
Magistrate Eckhold said society was very concerned about drug use.
"You don't know what you are getting," the magistrate said.
"There is a potential for mental illness. A lot of people choose to use recreational drugs and a lot of people suffer harm as well.
"You need to have a careful think about what you are doing with your life."
Magistrate Eckhold granted a police application for Mealey to be photographed and fingerprinted.
No action was taken on the bond.
